Classes Of Commercial Driver’s License
CDL training and a commercial driver’s license is required to drivers who wishes to get into the commercial trucking and the carrier industry. A CDL training and test is conducted to determine the eligibility and the qualifications of a driver to be able to drive huge vehicles with extreme efficiency and utmost diligence.
Before being awarded a commercial driver’s license, there are certain requirements that a driver must first accomplish. First of this requirements is the submission of a genuine medical certificate stating that the applicant does not have any form of health problem of physical disability that may stop him from doing his job properly.
A commercial driver’s license is issued bearing the class of license and vehicle that the driver is allowed to handle.
The different classes of commercial driver’s license are;
Class A – a class A CDL is given to those who are handling vehicles that has a gross vehicle weight rating 0f 26, 001 pounds and are towing vehicles with more than 10, 000 pounds of gross vehicle weight rating.
Class B – a Class B CDL is awarded to those who wishes to carry vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26, 001 pounds or more and are towing vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 10, 000 pounds.
Class C – a Class C CDL is granted to those who seeks to driver or handle vehicles or group of vehicles that does not fall to any of the two other classes provided further that they are designed to carry 16 or more passengers (including the driver).
After undergoing a CDL training and gaining a commercial driver’s license, CDL endorsements may also be required in order to be allowed to drive commercial or transport vehicles.
