Here are some customer reviews of You Don't Know Me :

This is a wonderfully unique book about the usual and unusual situations a young boy coping with his absent father, preoccupied mother, and evil soon-to-be stepfather must endure. Through a seemingly awful yet unexpectedly nurturing, high school year, readers, luckily, get to know this incredibly strong young man--even though we truly don't know him at the start.

Without a doubt, John, the fourteen-year-old who narrates the story, is indeed a comical and fascinating young teenage boy. John is highly descriptive in every aspect of his life trauma. For this reason, it always had me laughing out loud. I enjoyed the book to the fullest and read it in a short time period since it was fast paced. It deals with his everyday teenage life situations, in which he superintends to make fun of his algebra teacher(Mrs. Moonface). He lived with his mother and with his mother's abusive boyfriend. John always tried to obliterate his problems. Throughout the story ,John asserts that no one knows him because of his insecurity. Whatever he does not like, he tries to always make a funny remark about it. However, he proves to his best friend that he will ask his an endearing girl out for a date. This book is not like many because it fully drives the reader into John's world of tensity. John always demonstrated to possess a sense of humor despite the fact that he was going through some rigors. He had to phase the reality in his house in accompaniment of his mom's boyfriend. His mom's boyfriend mistreated him all the time whenever she wasn't present. However, at times John manages to break away from the harsh scolding. John did not have a close relationship with his mother. I have to say that while reading You don't know me, John, made me think of several conditions teenagers are put under whenever raised by an abusive stepfather.
I definitely recommend You don't know me because it's super interesting and thoughtful at the same time. The major words that describe this book is enchanting and comical. I give this book five stars.

OK, I know like half the reviews here start with "I couldn't put it down," but I really couldn't put this one down! It has so many high highs and low lows that you have to keep turning the pages to see what happens to your main character and narrator, 14 year old John. Tons of things happen to him within the span of only a few weeks. The only drawback is that sometimes Klass seems to be trying too hard to be funny and some of the descriptive passages can drag a bit, but don't let that stop you! Five big stars for this one.

I seemed to have seen this book everywhere. Every time i went into a bookshop or the libury i saw it and although the cover was eyecatching i read the back and thought it looked quite boring. Then one day i thought "what the hell, i'll give it a try" i am sooo glad i did. This book is amazing.

It's about a 14 year old called John who has all a teenager's normal stuggles wile fighting his own battle with his abusive step father.

It's told in a unquie style and in 2nd person and it works beautifully. it seems a little muggled, especially at first but trust me and stick with it, after the first few pages your be hooked.

John has a very critical out look on life and is convinced things aren't what they seem (after all Glory Hallujah could be a goat, just in a disguse as a girl) which probably comes from his own home life being nothing like it seems.

It has serious issues and is at times, very sad and slightly graphic (although i've read a lot worst) but is extremly funny too. (Gloria eating his note! hee hee)

Seriously, i think this book is brilliant i really do, and i dont normally give ANYTHING 5 stars!

Every year I pick a book out to give to people for Christmas - and this is the one for this year. I was amazed at what I read and in fact - read it twice over the span of a day - just to let it sink in, to immerse myself in the images created and to figure out where it was going... and how it was getting there. There are so many angles to this story - the voices that he hears in his head - that sometimes escape with consequences no one can imagine. The man who would be his step father - who he believes his mother would choose over him - only to find out later - almost too late - that he didn't know his mom as well as he thought he did and that she just might know him - the real him - after all. The girl who admires him from a far and finally has the courage to ask him out - setting into motion the beginning of the end of the story. The band teacher who can see beyond what is there.. and in the end rescues the boy. And then the boy - who you can see fall apart only to reject ways of falling totally off the edge - to attempt to rescue himself and ultimately doing just that. It's a thought provoking book.. That I can't wait to share with my friends and family.
