Here are some customer reviews of The Green Mile :

As a critic want-to-be I can't find enough stars to rate such an awsome movie and series of books. I, who is not a good reader, found that I stay awake at night for hours reliving all that Paul Edgecombe endured at E-Block. I saw the movie first (as it should be) which, reading the books, make the characters come alive. I cry the tears, I feel the pain, feel the hate, feel the heat and I feel the remorse. It gives me a mind to reconsider Capital Punishment. This is definately a go all the way to the Oscars movie. I have seen it twice and will see it again and again. Bring a box of tissue both men and women. Even if you read the 5 series books. Enjoy

One of Tom Hanks' best movies that has alot of simalarities to The Shawshank Redemption. If your a fan of Shawshank rent this film immediatly. There are a number of good character's in this movie including Prison Guards and Prisoners. Although its 3 hours long you won't feel the time. You won't be disapointed with this.

This movie completely justifies the obscene amount of money that Tom Hanks makes nowadays. I saw this with moderately high expectations -- but was absolutely blown away by the brilliant acting performances by the two leads - Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks. The story - quintessentially Stephen King - takes you on a 3-hour mystical journey. Duncan plays a prisoner on death row who possesses a magical power to heal. Hanks is the prison guard who befriends him. The setting - death row - is dark and eerie with its green hallway and dim, drab cells. Yet, for all its desolation, this setting somehow manages to uplift one. You learn to believe in miracles through the context of the scenes that take place therein. This is a very emotional movie. It is flawlessly directed (by writer-director Frank Darabont of "The Shawshank Redemption) and beautifully acted. I would not recommend it to viewers with a short attention span, for it is a riveting 3 hours long. Fans of Stephen King, however, will absolutely revel in this epic!

Can you imagine melding a little furry mouse, a huge hulking beast of a man, into a wonderfully woven magical tale, and your name is NOT "Disney"? I couldn't. However, super-natural master author, Stephen King, has a gift unsurpassed by few if any among modern day writers. And when he teams up with Disney--voila--one of the finest films made.

King's gift brings us this mysterious story of a man, John Coffey, who is wrongly imprisoned for the hideous murders of two small girls. Coffey is on deathrow, back in the 1930's. He has a "gift" too. And when the guards learn of this, they use this wonderfully strange force in miraculous ways.

I did have problems watching the intake & outflow of ---yuckkk ---what I guess I would call part of the magic. Hanks et al were well cast, and the electric chair room shots were extremely intense.

By now, most know the entire plot from either the book comprised of 6 novellas or from this hit movie. Either way, "The Green Mile" is rich, textural, heart-wrenching and just makes us want to protect all beasts, large and small.

Thank you for your interest & comment votes--CDS

Here is a motion picture that comes along once in a lifetime. The Green Mile is an unbelievable compilation of great acting, directing, and filming and it has an amazing story to tell. One of the chief complaints of the paid critics, was the length of this movie. How could anyone possibly fit all of that character and story line into a 90 minute movie? I did not once check my watch. Surprisingly, the movie follows the book very closesly (unusual for anything authored by Stephen King). Unfortunately, the Golden piece, and by not awarding the best supporting actor to Michael Clarke Duncan, who clearly deserved this award for his moving portrayal of John Coffey. One can only hope the Academy will not neglect this truly deserving film. Don't forget to have steady supply of tissue on hand, it will be needed more than once.
