Here are some customer reviews of Shangri-La Dee Da :

This album must be played a couple of time to get used to some of the songs, but when you get used to it their real good. Scott voice is in a pretty good shape. "Too Cool Queenie" is a top seller for sure and all the slow songs. The only drawback that i have is that they were supposed to make a double CD album this time and they didn't, they should have at least put a multimedia section, i don't like broken promises.

This is an excellent album if you are a real fan of STP, if not yor are gona hate it. I love it, the lyrics show the mature of the group but some times i'd like to hear something more heavy from them, like the number 4. If you are a fan like me, buy it if not stay away.

Being the veteran that I am of Stone Temple Pilots, I learn to take everything with a grain of salt. I first fell in love with them when they released Core many years ago, and their following albums, Purple, Tiny Music, and No 4 were all favorites of mine to listen to. If I could descibe this latest release with one word, it would be: DIVERSE. For the first time on any STP album, there are some songs that I think are the best material theyve done since Purple, and there are some songs I downright hate. It is however a great album as a whole, sounding like its inspiration came from Led Zepplin on most of the tracks. Sadly, the harder songs dont rock as much as the material from Core, and the softer songs, they dont have the class and grace of songs like Creep and Sour girl. In the end, if you like STP like me, youll learn to adapt to change, which is the most important skill you can keep with you in the music world. STP have released another great album, and I think they are definitely trying to find themselves, but they fall short with this one. I rank this album their 4th best, behind Core, Purple, and No 4.

Okay lads, your lead singer happens to have one of the best voices ever to grace a recording studio, and the family connection are capable of writing EXCELLENT songs (this is not that common across the rock music board, otherwise we'd all be stony broke!)and you have FOUR brilliant albums behind you; the previous (NO. 4) album is hugely underrated in my opinion, I love every morsel! (Mind you Tiny Music, Purple and Core have the same exquisite taste...) SO!!! For the benefit of Mr. Kite and all the rest of us: please take your time with the next one, and regain a bit of perspective! By the way, the noises you make still sound great, but this aside - the less said about Shangri-La Dee Da the better.(Too Cool Queenie had potential!). Finish the bloody songs off!! Signed Still A Fan

I have just listened to SHANGRI-LA DEE DA and after the first listen I am very disappointed. The 13 tracks kinda sound the same and the production is poor. The songs are soft with no catchy riffs, the vocals are weak and the same throughout the disc, and the songs feel like they were hurried and not given the proper time to develop. Of the the 3 "rockers" Dumb Love is the only one that even begins to come close to the STP of old. If you are a rock fan like I am and want a great record like CORE dont get this cd but if you are into the more POP sounding music this is an ok disc. It does have some high points but it could have been better so it earns 2 stars at its best
