Here are some customer reviews of Shaman :

Amazing sound and depth. I wasn't sure what to expect. Super Natural was excellent. These days signing on with the latest heart throb or platinum selling artist is the way to go. Not with Mr. Santana. Without his experience, style, eclectic ear, and passion would this album ever got off the ground. I don't even know who the hell Citizen Cope is! They rock with Carlos. Well done, a must have.

What do you get when you mix some contemporary pop singers and a legendary rock guitarist? A new Santana album. The 60's icon has risen from the Woostock nation ashes to be revived for a new generation. His recognizable at once guitar riffs are just background for the pop offerings of artists like Macy Grey, P.O.D.,Michelle Branch , Ozozmatli and Dido. So does it work? Yes and no ; there are songs that the mix is as tasty as paella and others where there is not enough spice. This album has something for everyone. For the old fans there are offeringss like " Victory is Won" with its instrumental wails and "Aye, Aye , Aye" with its minimilist vocals and heavy percussion. The vast majority is a crossover blend where Carlos has been relegated to the ultimate side musician; his mind bending notes lingering and twisting amongst the pop music. I bought this as soon as it came out on the recommedation of my brother and was sorely dissappointed at first. After numerous listenings, and countless replays of certain songs it has grown on me to the point where I like it. It is not agreat album but if you liked "Supernatural' than you probably won't be dissapointed. As an old fan I would have preferred more songs featurings his guitar playing taking center stage. As one of singers says on this disc, " make the guitar cry Carlos."The ever evolving Santana is sitting still, on hold, enjoying and basking in the glow of his new found audience. The musical shaman has reached into his bag of tricks and cast another spell giving his growing audience what they want , more of the same supernatural effect. This disc is a curiosity , to see the diversity of the acts featured is mind boggling. For the most part it works. Illustrating this fact is the surreal song entitled "Novus" that closes out the disc. None other than Placido Domingo is featured aas the vocalist after listening to an album that has everything from hip-hop to sassy pop. I associate this song to a theme for a post nuclear age as Domingo Placidos tenor bellows and finally succumbs to some amazing guitar work by Carlos ; both intertwining and creating a glorious result like the birth of a new era. Overall this is a pretty good disc with plenty of music to satisfy a variety of Santana fans but leaning more towards his new audience.

Excellent vintage Santana guitar licks.
He has again hit the sweet spot with his guest vocalists.
You can't go wrong with Carlos Devadip Santana.

This is a FUN record. If you enjoyed Supernatural then you will enjoy this just as much. Do not be mislead by reviews stating Carlos' guitar playing is weak or overshadowed by the production. I don't know what CD those reviewers are listening to. In FACT, Carlos proves that he is actually IMPROVING (if that is at all possible). Does he perform lengthly solos? Maybe not. But throughout each song, including the MOR friendly "Game of Love", his playing is creative, precise, and expressive. Here is a man who loves to play the guitar and you can feel his passion for the music. His playing doesn't overshadow the music nor does the music overshadow his playing.

Santana new CD is an Easy listening Pop music. I have been a Santana Fan for thrity years and now many others are discovering Santana due to guest artist on his album and Air play. His new CD is comercial pop music. It is designed for Pop music and is far from Santanas earlier work. I like Santana when he plays more instrumentals and Latin Jazz. This CD lacks the energy and soul of his early work.
