Here are some customer reviews of Serpent: A Novel from the NUMA Files (Numa Files Series) : Clive Cussler may need to pay more attention to the platitude: If it's not broken, don't fix it. Kurt and Joe are great heroes, but they seem far too close to Dirk and Al for comfort. If Cussler wants to introduce a new line of novels, he should make some real changes (as in take out NUMA, or not focus so much on one character) Instead, it seems the reader is getting Dirk Pitt and Al, just with different names and hobbies. But Cussler's skills as a writer keep the story flowing, so the novel is still a good read. But to be honest, I found the Dirk Pitt stories and especially "The Sea Hunters" much more fascinating. Why did Clive remove the essential members of his books in favor of a new, younger crew? Dirk & Al are the very essence of his novels, and replacing them is a cruel joke to his die-hard fans. I will continue to buy his books the very day they are available, but definitely feel that without Dirk, something is missing... Well I read it and thought it was good. But I miss Dirk and Al. It is just not the same with out those two. Kurt doesn't have the flair of Dirk nor the powerful presence. Joe is not as witty as Al and is more of a nerd than a hard hitter. The story over all was pretty bland and predictable. Not one of Clive's shining stars. I hope in the future that Clive will abandon Kurt and Joe and continue on with the heroes that so many of us have grown to love, the esteemed Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino. The plot is the sort of thing you would expect from Clive Cussler and new readers would find this a very entertaining book. However, those who have been brought up with Dirk and Al may well feel slightly let down with the more two-dimensional main characters in this book. More Dirk Pitt please!! What a book! This is one of his best. A new series with new characters, and new adventures. I was a little upset that Clive Cussler's new book wasn't a Dirk Pitt novel, but all anger subsided when I started reading it. I could not put it down! Now I am excited about the new characters and the new series. I hope that there will be more Kurt and Joe adventures, as well as more Dirk and Al adventures.
