Here are some customer reviews of Ritual de lo Habitual :

Just like the first album by the Stone Roses, everyone should at least listen to or own this album. Now I'm not going to write any pretentious comments about the band or this style of music(I'll leave that to the so called music critics....how do these people get jobs?). The first three tracks open gloriously giving you outstanding drum and bass combinations with clever vocals and guitar. This leads to 'obvious' a simple but simply magnificent song (translate the lyrics how you want).'Been caught stealing' is probably the bands most danceable tune on this album and is in perfect place to lead you to rest for '3 days', the albums centre piece song. It's even better live! 'Then she did' is the perfect song to compliment '3 days' and kind of continues the journey. The final two songs 'Of course!' and 'classic girl' are totally different in style but end the album perfectly. By this time, you'll want to play '3 days' again and again.....Trust me, lie down, play it and enjoy.

I remember going to my local record shop and getting them to unpack the vinyl album from the box the morning of its' UK release then rushing home to play it! Now the vinyl has deteriorated so much I've had (!) to buy it again on CD.
"Nothing's Shocking" had been played so much and this album had been so eagerly awaited I think I was bound to be a bit disappointed at the time. It seemed a bit over-produced and maybe even a bit tinny compared to some of their earlier stuff, but maybe I just couldn't appreciate some of the deeper and more complex arrangements. Who knows?! Maybe I just wasn't playing it loud enough!!!
I'm still utterly in love with 'Three Days' (Jane's Stairway?) and 'Then She Said', the latter being better IMO. Other tracks are up there - 'Of Course' and 'Obvious'; 'Been Caught Stealing' suffering from way too much air/video/play. But really all the tracks are excellent and you're left feeling some of the tracks should have been given the 'extended-mix' treatment of the better tracks - hence just the 4 stars.
"Nothing's Shocking" is still probably better if you *had* to choose between the two, but when you can have both...????!!!!
I would definitely rate this as one of the best rock/alternative albums of the nineties.

This proved to be the final Jane's Addiction album before their recent half-hearted comeback. Much of the album contains pretty good stuff, but doesn't cover new ground. Between the two, I prefer Nothing's Shocking.

Ritual de lo Habitual is Jane's addiction most popular album. The album is great and is short with only nine songs. HOwever, the album is definetely strong despite its short length. The album helped to launch Jane's addiction into the mainstream, but the band did not lose any creative energy while producing this album. After more than a decade in release, ritual de lo habitual is still a great album.

I wouldn't listen to too much of what Genevieve Williams had to say... the song "Three Days" is an epic of almost perfect proportions. A true musician understands this in listening to it. No one can question the amount of energy these guys put out, and the talent behind all the instruments and the poetic vocals make this one of the greatest rock bands to date. I would strongly recommend this album.
