Retrospective: The Best of Buffalo Springfield
: Dudes! My dad made me listen to this stuff and its awful. I wanted to hurl. If you want good music, you old timers should listen to some Limp Bizkit CDs. Now thats music.
This music never gets tiresome. The songs will go through your head for days, and you'll get a real feel for how special the music of that era was to those of us living through it. "For What It's Worth," in my opinion, is one of the most important songs ever written, and will always be my all-time favorite. Tune in to great music and musicians, and enjoy Buffao Springfield.
Every song on this disc is exceptional. Absolutely necessary to any collection. It just doesn't work in this sequence - and there's too much missing. Splurge and buy the three albums instead. There's too much Springfield you don't hear on this disc. If you can only afford one buy ...AGAIN.
I feel I should like this album more than I do, but it doesn't grab me. Still, I can't really say anything that negative about it. I bought this collection to get a CD version of 'Bluebird'. 'For What Its Worth' is also great, but seems to be on almost every 60's collection available. This is a diverse collection of songs, sometimes sounded like CSN, sometimes the Grateful Dead, sometimes the Byrds(when they went country rock), sometimes Neil Young solo. 'Broken Arrow' and 'I Am a Child' are strong Neil Young compositions, but Stills truly shines the most on this collection. Must have for fans of Stills, Young and Messina, good window of their early career. If you are a CSN fan, it would be better to first buy a Hollies(Graham Nash) and Byrds(David Crosby) collection before this one.
I bought this album in the early 70's without knowing much about the band. I can't say that I loved it at first, but it grew on my over time and is now one of my favorites. Out of curiousity, I eventually bought "Last Time Around" in a sale bin, but was disappointed. I usually dismiss greatist hits albums because I consider them for the musical airheads, but this is an exception. It truly captures the best stuff from this underappreicated roots band.
