Reroute to Remain
: OK 3 stars is pushing it..more like 2, back in the day (1997)I would have given them 6 of 5 stars! Lets talk about why this album isnt as good as particularly the first 2: Jester Race and Whoracle. After that they spiraled downward in my oppinion. This album takes the follow of Clayman even further, way further, In Flames has now added keyboards and symphs to the music, it really doesnt fit with in flames. And if this isnt enough, they sing as well. They follow the same song structure and almost all of their songs have choruses that sing. Many have accused them of selling out! Im not sure, they definetly wanted to reach a bigger audience..so whats better, to burn out or to blow up? They now are getting recognision for their music. In flames oven opened for Slipknot of all bands a little bit ago, strange for me to believe. If you are new to this band you will probably enjoy it along with all your nu-metal stuff. If you want some more of this, check out Jester Race and Whoracle. o yeah..Dark Tranquillity is another band you might like, give them a listen. If youve never heard of in flames or arent a big fan, you will probably love this album, its excellent for their new style. THE BEST mainstream rock you will probably hear.
In Flames - When I hear that, I think of the amazing band which we all enjoy. "Reroute to Remain" is one amazing CD! In Flames gave it their all. Anders really puts his heart and soul into his words. Bjorn and Jester take their guitar talent to the top. Peter's bass just picks up pace and he loses control (which means, amazing bass riffs). And finally, Daniel, the man who keeps the beat for this amazing crew. Daniel has a hard job, with playing some wicked drums and making a beat for the duo to step in (Jester and Bjorn - guitars). The duo is then joined in with the amazing bass of Peter and the customized voice of Anders. Anders changes his voice to many different pitches, which goes to prove that metal is not always on the same frequency. It's hard to talk about this album, except for that it is one amazing piece of work, and it put In Flames another step up on the charts! Congrats In Flames, this is a good one for sure!
In the context of the rest of their career, this In Flames album feels to me a lot like Metallica's Black Album feels. They seem to have shifted their focus from the heaviness and intricate dual-guitar leads of their earlier work to a more accessible riff-based metal complete with catchy sing-along choruses. Don't get me wrong, many of the songs still have some fast death parts, but almost all songs contain catchy segments as well (songs like "Egonomic" and "System" illustrate this phenomenon pretty well). They have also added more slow experimental songs here ("Free Fall", "Dawn of a New Day", "Cloud Connected") in the tradition of Clayman (think "Only For the Weak"). There's even a light song ("Metaphor") that seems like it would fit right in on U.S. modern rock radio, something I would never have considered for In Flames before now. The end result is something I enjoy a lot. I'd recommend it for any metal fan who isn't only into harsh death stuff. It's very listenable still heavy enough to get the adrenaline flowing. But at same type it saddens me a little that they'll probably never release another album in the style of Jester Race or Whoracle. If this is their "Black Album", I sincerely hope the next one isn't their "Load".
If you already have all of the In Flames albums, then go ahead and add this to your collection. Just one warning, if this is the first CD of In Flames you plan to buy, don't! This was the first CD I bought and that was a mistake. Now on to the review. This is not a bad album but it seems alot of songs are just fillers. Even the songs that I use to like don't sound very good anymore. That probably because I just bought the clayman album. Start with Clayman instead.
I was so excited when I woke up on September 3rd to get the new In Flames album! Of course I had heard the rumors that it was going to ... but I had faith in my favorite Swedish band. I noticed the art work they had done to their cover and already I could see the difference. Their classic "Jester" went from looking like the darkness they used to sound like and now look like a puffy marshmallow! I got on the train and started listening and I could believe my ears. They had changed so much. Me being an In Flames fan for over 2 years, I got all their albums, and I couldn't believe a band with so much talent went from something like "Jester Race" to "Reroute To Remain". I hope the title has a secret messege behind that. I believe Nuclear Blast (their record label) should back off and let them play what they feel, sing like they used to and if not In Flames Should consider going to another label like Century Media. Over all there is something about the album that I do like because I keep listening to it but a true IN FLAMES fan, I am a bit disappointment.
