Here are some customer reviews of Pilgrim :

Clapton finally breaks out of his tired, blues based formula and delivers a shockingly, moving work that is sure to stun anyone who has followed his career. Restrained, introspective, and, soulful, this guy reinvents himself with grooves befitting one with so much talent. Bravo!

Clapton has definately changed in style and content since the days of the Yardbirds and Cream etc, etc, and so on and so on. Some fans like that and some do not. He has quieted down and the lead guitar solos are far and few. Unlike some of his earlier solo albums, most of them saved in quality by a few great blues songs and top 40 pop-rock hits; this collection is straight from the heart. Loaded with great R&B funk and mature lyrical and instrument arrangements, Clapton has it all together. Some of it reminiscent of recently deceased R&B and soul master Curtis Mayfield, EC still stays close to roots music. He also adds some pop rhythm and acoustic tunes to make up a well-rounded excellent album. In my opinion, this is his best since his last two real studio releases, the Blues tribute album "From the Cradle" and "Journeyman"(another gem); which are probably his best three releases since the Dominoes "Layla".

Eric Clapton has come up with some deep lyrics on "Pilgrim", and some intense music to go along with them. However, many of the songs are too long and drawn-out for my taste. I found it difficult to get into this album by just sitting and listening to it, but having it play in the background while I'm doing something else adds a definite atmosphere to the room. Fans of Eric Clapton will enjoy "Pilgrim", but the younger crowd who have just stumbled upon his work might be better suited exploring some of his earlier albums.

Clapton seems to get better the older he gets. This album is so peaceful and sureal. I listen to this one when I go to bed. It is truly beautiful work and one of his best.

Eric Clapton is back on top with this new collection of songs. Mostly every track can be rated as excellent especially River of Tears and Broken Hearted. The disc combines the old blues of Eric with a good rock mix. Overall the album captures the feeling the Clapton is still recording for the love of the music and not just for the purpose of earning more cash.
