Here are some customer reviews of Philips MCM530 150-Watt Micro Shelf System with 5-Disc CD/MP3 Changer and Digital AM/FM Tuner :

The free shipping is awesome! It came two days before the expected delivery date. I am pleased with the shipping aspect.

First thing, I am disappointed at how the speakers are the same design. They should be two separate speakers but instead they're the same. I thought I get what I see from the picture? I was a little confused by that, but they're both fine and produce the same sound quality equally. I do agree that this product makes alot of shuffling CD sounds, often unnecessary for only using Tuner. It bothered me a bit, but it all went away quickly when I sample my variety of CD formats. I tried sampling everything that I have - regular music CD, Mp3's, CDR - they were easily read. I was impressed by how descriptive it gets at my mp3's lists of songs.

Every reviews seem to praised the sound quality of this machine. I agree, it deserves to be praised. It is awesome - can't complaint. I love its MAX sound function, something I have not seen with other speakers functionality. The sound quality itself makes me want to give it a 5 stars but the fact that it came with two identical speakers design instead of 2 separate design (like the picture)made me give this a 4.

Read the negative reviews carefully. If you intend to play this thing using the remote, beware. Via the remote, it is only capable of playing one CD, no sequential. I'm extremely dissatisfied with it, but otherwise, it is a handsome machine, and if you only need one CD played or intend to play it by touching buttons on the console itself (instead of the remote) this may be for you. The support call center was not especially helpful.

First a great word about Amazon - I ordered this sytem and chose free shipping - and got it 2 days later! The system was much smaller and more tasteful than almost any of the others on the retail shelves - and the sound is unbelievable for a system this size. It plays my MP3-RW disks with no problem and reads them very quickly. I haven't made use of the PC-connection capabilities, as the systema and my PC are in different rooms, but it's nice to know the capability is there. I researched a lot before buying - and you can't get anything better for the money. I heartily recommend it.

I agonized over buying this system after reading other reviews, about the issues with noisy CD searching at start-up and the PC link only supporting MusicMatch.

But finally I bought it anyway and I am glad I did. I had had a Phillips boom box before and thought the sound absolutely incredible. So I wanted to try Phillips again. I went and listened to this system in a store and was convinced.

I use this system at work. I generally put non-vocal music on in the morning in the background when I have to concentrate - everything from classical to jazz to 'new age' soft stuff. When I don't have to concentrate, I turn it up loud, put on fun pop or rock music. It sounds great to me at all levels. I use the CDs, usually keeping my favorite work background noise in the player. I also have my computer's headphone jack hooked to the Aux input of the shelf system 16 feet away and run music from my RealPlayer library. The remote makes it easy to switch back and forth quickly.

Yes, the CD switching is annoyingly loud and relatively slow (what were they thinking?), but I only deal with that once or twice a day and it is no big deal to me. And I'm not using the USB PC Link yet, but since the Aux input approach works well for me, no big deal.

I am VERY happy I went ahead and bought this. The sound is incredible.

I compared the sound quality of this unit to several
reputable brands at the electronics store, and was quite
impressed to hear how much less distortion it had in
relation to the competitors, even cranked up. It seems
to be a quality product, and sounds as good or better
than the esoteric, audiophile, micro system I purchased
a year ago for five times the price of this unit. I'd
say it's an excellent buy for anyone looking for great
sound at a very reasonable price. The display is a little
strange, but I'm not listening to the display anyway.
