: Great unit Good Price Plays Region 1,2,3,4,5,6 , I thnk few customers who say this unit is not region free prpbably bought non Region Free models, Please be careful if you are looking for Region Free DVD Player buy a Region Free DVD Player as per my Research All region Free DVD Players are modified so if you are juct looking for same model number and buying a non region free dvd player, that unit will not be a region free player so Buy a Player which says region free.
This Philips model is Region Free and Code free which will play any region disc PAL or NTSC on any TV in the world.

I bought this unit from Amazon over a year ago for my parents. They travel to Europe a lot and wanted to play their Region 2 DVDs at home. This player does a great job of converting from PAL to NTSC and playing both Regions 1 & 2 (I have not tested any other Regions).
When my Dad can't get his $400 Panasonic DVD player to play a DVD-RW or some other unusual disk or format he just puts it in the Philips and it plays. It has never let him down. I have made a lot of home videos on many different types of DVDs and this player has played them all.
I can't believe that for $70 (last year's price) I got so much value. It still works like a charm, which is more than I can say for the Paanasonic DVD players I have bought over the years for much more money.
I plan on getting one for myself this week.
I shant repeat what others have said, but will say this DVD player managed to make it through some of my old, scratched up DVDs without a hitch. DVDs, that is, that no other player I've encountered has been able to make it through due to heavy scarring.
great picture quality and has played every type of disc i've put in it (region 2 dvd, divx, mp3, vcd, svcd, and cd)...i've had no problem with picture quality or any other kind of problem that i've read people have had in some of the other reviews...i definitely recommend this dvd player to everyone
Just tried out this Phillips player with DVDs ordered in France and from Hong-Kong. Works great, good picture and no problems. Can't understand why reviewer Susanne Heidt of Los Angeles said she had problems -- in spite of what the manual says, this player works fine on other Region/Code DVDs.
