When you think an artist will hit a slump, Maxwell proves you wrong. The ladies will definately love this CD.
I am overwhelmingly disappointed with this Album. I was riding his jock, big time, and still do, but not because of NOW. This is a stretch for me because I don't like 99% of the male R&B singers out there. I told ... folks... that Maxwell was special. Well he is-but not on THIS ALBUM. I'm really looking at this brother sideways right about now. Here's why: 1. Loss of the surrealness from Embrya. ("Drown Deep") Not as bad as a lot of the radio R&B, but still pretty shallow and incoherent. Now these are just examples, but neither of these two releases sounded like anything that was coming out of the diaspora of R&B music, which was a blessing from the Almighty himself. But NOW sure does. I'm so mad at him that I may just go and listen to some Andreas Vollenweider to calm my nerves. Except for "Womans Work", "Lifetime", and "Get To Know You" the rest of it sounds strangely like a lot of the ...[stuff] that turned me away from contemporary R&B in the first place. Some observations. -What's up with the percussion tracks? Can we say "drum machine" hell. There's a feature on Sequencers called "Quantization". I wish they had used it. The drums were lagging like my daughter with her shoe laces untied, not to mention they were lame and elementary. 1/8 note repetitions on the muted high hat on damn near every song. Whazzupwitdat? Did they not synchronize the channels? -Why the juvenile lyrics? C'mon, Maxwell, what have you been doing, bruh, listening to Keith Sweat albums? Give me a break. I have at least another page of complaints, but had to try to make this as concise as possible. I'm gonna compress and burn some of Maxwells stuff onto a compilation CD. It will be all of UHS, all of Embrya and 3 songs from this album. None of this takes away from my love of this man. He is Marvin, Otis, Sam Cooke, and David Ruffin all rolled into one. Can you say this about ANY male R&B artist in the past decade? (Other than Luther) I seriously doubt it. Have a Peachy Day!
