Now That's What I Call Music! 14
: Over the Now That's What I Call Music! series years, they have had major successes (Now 5, Now 7, Now 11) and major setbacks (Now 9, Now 12, Now 13), but slowly they are gaining my respect back. This one, Now 14, has songs mostly from urban type genres, consisting mostly of hip-hop, r&b, pop and rock the Now series never really goes deep into any other besides those four genres (besides sidetracking to add some country to a few of their compilations). However, i find most songs on Now 14 relieving considering a good amount of them are newer and not as overplayed, here's the track highlights:1. "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce featuring Jay-Z (3/5) - Sorry but this song is terribly played-out. It is upbeat and has a catchy sound but is way too overplayed for me. Even her new song with Sean Paul is overplayed. 2. "Where Is The Love?" by Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake (4/5) - A good upbeat hip-hop song about what is going on in the world today. I have major respect for the BEP's and i love their new album Elephunk. This is a great song, just a little overplayed. 3. "My Love Is Like...Whoa" by Mya (3/5) - I'm sorry but i don't know what the big deal is with this song. Everyone says its great and they love it but i don't like it for some reason. I thought this song was catchy for two or three listens, i'm just not into it. 4. "Never Leave You - Uh Oh Uh Oh" by Lumidee (3/5) - The remix is way better, maybe because you don't have to hear her sing as much. Not that good of a song. 5. "Right Thurr" by Chingy (4/5) - This song is very played out, but after hearing "Holidae Inn" a million times its kind of refreshing to hear this song again. Very catchy, upbeat hip-hop song. 6. "Wat Da Hook Gon Be" by Murphy Lee featuring Jermaine Dupri (5/5) - I am so glad they put this on here! I am addicted to Murphy Lee's new album Murphy's Law but i never thought this would pop up on Now 14. Its a brand new hip-hop song that is incredibly catchy, its rising up the charts fast as well. This is probably my favorite on the album. 7. "Thoia Thoing" by R. Kelly (4/5) - New, upbeat, r&b song. I just don't think i'm getting into it. 8. "Let's Get Down" by Bow Wow featuring Baby (5/5) - Why are so many people hatin on Bow Wow. I think he's matured alot since the Lil' days. His new album Unleashed is great. This first single with Baby (who i hate) is catchy hip-hop. If only Baby wasn't in it. 9. "Senorita" by Justin Timberlake featuring Pharrell (3/5) - Very played out r&b song. The Neptunes did a hot beat for it and its one of the better tunes from Justified but its getting old by the minute. 10. "I Want You" by Thalia featuring Fat Joe (3/5) - Very annoying at this point. I'm getting tired of Fat Joe and i don't know too much about Thalia. It was good for a minute, its tired now. 11. "Suga Suga" by Baby Bash featuring Frankie J (4/5) - The beat and chorus with Frankie J are very addictive, it's just the whole rest of the song that is terrible. 12. "In Those Jeans" by Ginuwine (5/5) - Not as new, but a very addictive r&b song. 13. "Walked Outta Heaven" by Jagged Edge (5/5) - Same as above, very addictive, and very new, suprising they put such a new song on a Now compilation. Currently entering the Billboard Top 10 singles chart. 14. "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life" by Stacie Orrico (4/5) - Catchy upbeat pop song, has a nice chorus and all, but its kind of bland considering what else is out there. 15. "Why Can't I" by Liz Phair (2/5) - Why can't you? Because you and all the songs you do are boring, average and very very annoying, worst song on the disc. 16. "Stacie's Mom" by Fountains Of Wayne (4/5) - I loved this song when it first came out but now its played out. Very catchy, addictive, pop single. 17. "Girls & Boys" by Good Charlotte (4/5) - Another played-out song. Good chorus, though. Very very addictive after a few listens. 18. "The Boys Of Summer" by The Ataris (4/5) - Yet another played-out but catchy pop song. Good cover. 19. "Someday" by Nickelback (4/5) - This one is steadily growing on me. I haven't yet got over the fact that Nickelback aren't as good as they used to be. This is a similar sound to "How You Remind Me" with a little bit more edge. Catchy, but i haven't got into it yet. 20. "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down (5/5) - This is INCREDIBLE! If not the best, second best at least. This is the best song from 3DD's newest album Away From The Sun. The only problem is that 3DD has a formula of making every song on an album sound alike, that formula annoys me. But this song is way better than "When I'm Gone" and "The Road I'm On". 3DD is slowly becoming one of my favorite bands. That's all i have to say about Now 14. I am suprised, however, that there was no appearence by 50 Cent on this album considering he's the biggest rap star of 2003. Most of the songs i wished were on here were on Totally Hits 2003, but i have to say, Now 14 beats TH2003 by a LONG SHOT. This is the hits package you want, it has alot of catchy fun hip-hop and pop songs to really get into. (The next Now should feature OutKast's "Hey Ya!" because its the catchiest song of the year!)
Ive purchaced every Now cd since #6 and by far this is the best one buy it now. If you love all the pop hits you dont have to buy any cd's except this one. Me and my 10 yr old daughter have a ball singing this out loud!!!
I am on my 14th now CD, and still I look forward to buying these CD's and 14 was no exception. And yet again I am glad to see them still making Now! CD's. Putting Justin Timberlake twice on the same CD is that fair, I mean I'll say that "Where Is The Love" was a hit, but why is "Senorita" on here, but that is only one of few mistakes on Now! 14. "Right Thurr" from Chingy is also another minor mistake. There could have been other songs to choose from, like Staind's "So Far Away" or Shania Twain's "Forever And For Always, but Now! 14 hits its mark, and keeps the Now! series going. Some of my favorite songs on this CD are, "Here Without You", "Why Can't I", "Girls & Boys", "Someday", "Crazy In Love", and "My Love Is Like...Whoa". When I initially made this review "Someday" from Nickelback only recieved a C grade but I now like the song and it know gets a B+ as its grade, also "More To Life" from Stacie Orrico" has become less irriating to listen to, and I have made a lot of use out of this album since buying it and that is why I am now giving this Now! 14 CD, an A- as its grade a changing it to a five star review. Grades for the songs: 1. "Crazy in Love"-B 2. "Where Is The Love"-C 3. "My Love Is Like Whoa"-A 4. "Never Leave You"(?)-F 5. "Right Thurr"-terrible song- F- 6. "Wha The Hook"(?)F 7. "Thoia Thoing"-C 8. "Let's Get Down"- D 9. "Senorita" another terrible song- F 10. "I Want You"- B- 11. "Suga Suga"(?) F 12. "In Those Jeans" D+ 13. "Walked outta Heaven"(?) F 14. "More To Life" B 15. "Why Can't I(now we are talking) A+++++ 16. "Stacy's Mom" one of the worst songs I've ever heard F--- 17. "Girls And Boys" A+ 18. "The Boys of Summer" C 19. "Someday" B+ 20. "Here Without You" A+++++++++++(best song on the CD) Overall, the album recieves a A-
1. Crazy in Love - (2/5) This might be the lamest smash hit ever..The lyrics are sad...The best part is the Jay-Z solo 2. Where is the Love? - (4/5) What's that? A rap song with good wholesome lyrics that sends a message and is also catchy? IT CAN'T BE! 3. My Love is Like Whoa. - (3/5) Not a big fan of Mya, But this song is actually kind of catchy with a good hook 4. Never Leave You - (1/5) Why? Just why? 5. Right Thurr - (3/5) This is a good example of what Chingy can bring to the table...He seems to have a bright future ahead of him 6. Wat da hook gon be - (3/5) I dunno dawg...It's just OK to me. I've heard better rap songs but this still has a nice beat to it 7. Thoia Thoing - (2/5) R. Kelly has done much better then this but I give it credit for being differant and edgier then the normal R & B. 8. Let's Get Down - (1/5) Why? Once again, Why? 9. Senorita - (4/5) Mucho props to JT for finally moving on beyond the N'Sync hole he dug himself into. I really like this song because it stands out from the rest of the pack with a kinda spanish feel. 10. I Want You - (2/5) Never have been a fan of thalia and fat joe. Not bad I guess 11. Suga Suga - (5/5) Welcome everyone to the definition of catchy. I cannot get this song out of my head. They nailed it with a smooth flowing chorus and a great beat. 12. In those Jeans - (3/5) Ginuwine pulls through with a very bearable single. 13. Walked Outta Heaven - (1/5) I can't stand when the friggin' NOW albums put crap like this on it. Why? I thought it was supposed to be a compelation of chart toppers, not crap that makes me wish I were deaf. 14. (There's Gotta Be) More To Life - (2/5) Stacie Orrco. I seriously don't like you. Please stop your path of corruption now before you seriously injure someone. K? Thx. Bye. 15. Why Can't I - (0/5) Seriously. People. This song is GOD AWFUL. This is the only song that when it comes on VH1, MTV, or the radio I change the station. I seriously CANT STAND HER. 16. Stacy's Mom - (4/5) This song is funny. Plus it inspired me to buy the CD. Very catchy and eccentric first single. 17. Girls and Boys - (3/5) Not a punk person. Not really a fan of Good Charlotte (<---Wanna be Blink, Won't ever be Blink) but this song is catchy and not terrible in the stricktest sense. 18. The Boys of Summer - (4/5) I like the tempo and pace of this song and the Atari's should rightfully be the next big thing. 19. Someday - (3/5) Nikelback produces a pretty good tune. Like the rhythm and the fact its easy to sing along with. Unfortunately I'm so sick of Chad Krueger's voice that I can't possibly give this song over a 3 point rating. 20. Here Without You - (5/5) 3 Doors Down nails it. When I'm Gone is also another great song and this one complements it perfectly. Not only did they time the release of this song right with the war in Iraq but also say something meaningful while delivering an overall fantastic performance. Brilliant job from a group that I think is gonna really make a name for themselves in the years to come.
Now 14 is one of the best "Nows" in later years. They actually put the most popular music from different genres on it. Plus, I've actually heard of all the songs before. Great mix of hits! Some suggestions for Now 15: Me Against The Music - Britney Spears Featuring Madonna Get Low - Lil' Jon & The East Side Boyz Hey Ya! - Outkast Bigger Than My Body - John Mayer Baby Boy - Beyoncı Featuring Sean Paul The Voice Within - Christina Aguilera Trouble - Pink So Yesterday - Hilary Duff Harder To Breathe - Maroon 5 Going Under - Evanescence Shake Ya Tailfeathers - Nelly, P. Diddy & Murphy Lee P.O.D. - Will You
