Nickel Creek
: The first time I heard the song Reasons Why it took my breath away and that is not a joke! I could hardly breathe through the whole song! Thankfully, the song ended so I could breathe! The song is excellent and so is their album. Please buy this album. It is not every day we get someone in the music business who actually know what they are doing!
This album is absolutely amazing, it's hard to believe this band is so young, until you realize the fresh, youthful theme of the whole album. It's not your daddy's bluegrass, in fact one would be hard-pressed to call it just bluegrass. Celtic, Classical, Folk, it's a blend of all, and the vocals on some of the songs will remind you of mainstream alternative (namely 'When you come back down'). Country has become so tired over the last ten years or so, I hope this band will set an example and lead the genre to new heights. Take a listen, you won't be sorry...
This CD is just amazing. I'd never heard of Nickel Creek until just a few weeks ago when I happened to catch their video of "Reasons Why." I immediately ran to my computer to order the CD. In the couple of weeks since I received it, it's all I've listed to - in the car and at work. The musicianship is superb, while the songs are beautifully written and arranged. Chris Thile is a standout - a young instrumentalist who also writes and arranges, and has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. It's worth listening to over and over and over ...
I love this album. From bluegrass to folk to celtic, Nickel Creek shines. Their vocal harmonies are so perfect it is as though they were made for one another! The lyrics found throughout the album also make it clear that Nickel Creek is a band of real substance, and true humanity. It is clear that they make music because they love it, not because they want to get rich and famous. This album is probably the best album I've purchased in the past 5 years, next to David Grisman's "Hot Dawg" album. Buy it now, and share it with every music lover you know. Nickel Creek will transcend any and all genre barriers and make fans out of anyone who hears them.
Once known as a band of youthful prodigees, Nickel Creek arrives with this wonderful project. Nickel Creek steps beyond bluegrass with this album without completely shedding the bluegrass spirit. They combine pop ideas, with celtic moods while still holding that building drive that bluegrass is known for. Chris Thile, possibly the worlds greatest mandolin player, headlines the group but no one takes a backseat. Sean Wadkins is Chris's equal on guitar and his ability to write crisp, tight songs adds depth to this album. Sara Wadkins adds wonderfully tender yet powerful vocals and flawless fiddle arrangements while Scott Thile drives the band in perfect time on bass. This one album that you must own if you are an acoustic music fan.
