Here are some customer reviews of
Neighborhood Watch
: Dilated peoples is a stylish, funky hip- hop group composed of Rakaa (rapper), Evidence ( rapper) an Babu (DJ). Big Business, Marathon and This Way are probably the hottest tracks, but Kanye West's part on This Way is wasted. This L.A. group is inspiring and hella tite, and I can't wait to cop their two previous CDs. This is a true hip hop group with something real and important to say whether it's about current events politically, or whether it is about getting up and changing your lifestyle for tommorrow. This rap group (to its advantage), does not curse just for the ****ing sake of doing it. They are mindful and their symbolism, and interesting, almost spiritual methods of real underdog hip- hop gansta **** are both moving and thought- provoking. Babu's beats are off da chain! If you don't like 'em, than you can bend down and kiss my shoes. Also, war is destructive and wrong.
this album is amazing just listening to this album shows u music that you can't find around. It's original, non commerical real music. The album has a range of different beats but they sitck with there original sound which dosn't happen with many bands-respect. If you wanna hear amazing scrating dj babu final song on the album is unreal. If your looking for more dilated number 7 or love and war are out of dis world. Dilated keep to thier roots-respect tryin to breathe shows their amazing way of mixin and their lyrical respect. There lyrics are easy to relete to non of this cdommerical rap this is one of the most down to earth albums of the decade highely recommend this people buy it, you won't regret it!! thats a promise
I dont know if this was just me but i really wasnt feeling this album. theres only a few good tracks that i listen to. ill give it a 2 because 'dj babu in deep concentration' and 'this way' are tight tunes!
I won't lie. I've been waiting for Neighborhood Watch for awhile. Dilated Peoples is one of my favorite groups in hip hop. The crew from Los Angeles - Evidence, Rakaa Iriscience, and DJ Babu - bring a sound not heard on today's radio. Evidence and Rakaa come with the lyrics and rhymes while Babu cuts up the the records ever so nicely. How many groups feature a DJ as part of their group? Neighborhood Watch is on par with their earlier works, The Platform (2000) and Expansion Team (2001). The trio produces a fresh sound each time out without staying stagnant. The production succeeds at being progressive and innovative while staying true to the roots of hip-hop. It's clear that Dilated Peoples respect the foundation and influence laid by hip-hop artists of the past (Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, Gang Starr) by alluding to these pioneers ("This Way", "Marathon", "DJ Babu in Deep Concentration"). Yet at the same they take hip-hop forward through collaborations with artists (Kanye West, Defari, Phil Da Agony, Planet Asia, Devin The Dude). If you're looking for an album all about a harem of wanton women, the increasing size of spinning rims on a Cadillac and the price of a platinum chain, look elsewhere. Dilated Peoples doesn't rhyme about things that can be bought with millions of dollars. If you are interested in something different than what you hear on the radio, than try Dilated Peoples. Listen to the crisp beats and the content of the lyrics. They may surprise you. But I can't make you like Dilated Peoples. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.
As with all dilated peoples joints you get good hard honest hiphop. You get the impression its more than just music to them, its a way of life (to use a cliche). These guys have been doing this for years, building and perfecting their art. And anybody thats heard the 1st 2 albums will tell you that they have PERFECTED it. This time around however i found that there was a little something missing.....but just cant put my finger on it. There's the standard few standouts like "reach us", "marathon", "love+war" and "big business" and the amazing rakaa solo joint "world on wheels" but unfortunately when they run out you're left with a lot of mediocre songs by their standards. "Tryin' to breathe", "who's who" and "closed session" are very average. This time around the also branched out a little further than usual with KANYE WEST "this way" and DEVIN THE DUDE "poisonous" which i havent really made my mind up about yet. All in all its a solid effort but unlike their previous work they havent really advanced from last time. Worth copping, purely for the bangers that are on it and that it is DILATED PEOPLES and they're bringing real hiphop to masses!!!!!
