"elephant love song" is so CHEESY it is an instant classic. Don't let the Lady Marmalade song fool you, if you are a lover of broadway music this cd is for you. Best tracks, "Children Of The Revolution" "Because We Can" "Sparkling Diamond" "One Day I'll Fly Away" "Hindi Sad Diamonds" "Elephant Love Medley" "Come What May" "You Song" This is definately the best soundtrack in recent memory. If the movie is half as good it will be a classic. but the soundtrack is still good. The remakes of "Lady Marmalade" and "Rhythem of The Night" are really great. "One Day I'll Fly Away", is the best song on the CD and Nicole Kidman has an okay voice, she's not Mariah or Whitney...but she is still better than other actresses who try to sing. I also like "Sparkling Diamonds" and "The Elephant Love Medley" and "Your Song". Ewan & Nicole - who knew they had it in them?? This is another Baz Luhrmann classic compilation - ecclectic, daring and dazzling. "Moulin Rouge" is truly a musical - but with no original songs, simply modern tracks sung by the stars, though often a little altered. Ewan and Nicole do quite well, as do the other performers like Bowie, Bono and Beck (who do have some original compositions). The "Elephant Love Medley" is truly a marvel, with Nicole and Ewan having a conversation where they just go from one song verse to another - including "All You Need is Love", "Pride (in the name of love)and "I Will Always Love You." The track "Hindi Sad Diamonds" is also entrancing. There are actually 15 tracks - two versions of Bowie's "Nature Boy" frame the CD (and the trakcs listed here are not in the exact order...)I was looking forward to this CD - mostly out of curious anticipation, and I was not disappointed! A definite must-buy! Befitting the movie which actually seeks to cross different time periods and eras, the music does likewise. The soundtrack boasts of sixteen incredible songs that actually covers different genres - from the upbeat and funky Because We Can by Fatboy Slim, to the sultry crooning of Christina, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink in Lady Marmalade, to the staid but timeless grace of David Bowie's music in Diamond Dogs (redone by Beck) and Nature Boy. And who can resist the heart-wrenching, gut-twisting, emotion-filled voices of Ewan and Nicole in the amazing love song Come What May? Personally I believe that the two versions of this song in the album already justifies buying this album... Listening to the soundtrack to the upcoming film "Moulin Rouge," you almost anticipate the thing to fall flat on its face. It is such a HUGE commerical and artistic risk: untrained singers Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor headlining a period musical whose songs are mostly comprised of 70s and 80s hits. However, the risk pays off tremendously. Safer bets are the modern tracks by Beck, Fatboy Slim, and Christina Aguilera (et al), whose "Lady Marmelade" is a fun and energetic remake. The songs from the film stand well on their own as Kidman and (especially) McGregor stun the listener with their surprising range and vocal power. Disappointments are few but include a rocky start to a tango-influenced "Roxanne" remake and an odd, but ultimately winning, entry by Rufus Wainwright. Still, this is one of those CDs that pays off upon multiple plays when the tapestry of soaring music and snippits of modern lyrics blend into the subconcious. This CD isn't for all listeners as "Lady Marmelade" would have you believe, as I'm sure the movie will be. However, true lovers of musicals will not be disappointed by the substantial artistic talent on display in this memorable CD.
