Moondance is a fabulous album that moves the heart and soul. More upbeat and r&b than his previous masterwork, "Astral Weeks," "Moondance" is no less brilliant. "Moondance" is one of those albums you just put in the car and let it play. The album starts out with the self reflective "And It Stoned Me." The imagery on this song alone proves that Van Morrison belongs with Lennon, McCartney and Dylan as one of rock's great lyricists. The album then swings into the jazzy title track about love in the moment on the dance floor. "Caravan" in my opinion is one of the greatest road songs ever recorded. A song that combines the mysticism of a gypsy caravan and turning the radio takes us on a journey into what music is all about, emotion. While all of the songs are amazing pieces of music, (notably "Crazy Love," and "Brand New Day") the real standout on this album is "Into the Mystic." "Into the Mystic" is a haunting love song about getting away from it all, and leaving the troubles of earth behind. It is the song of a lost lover singing to his live companion that soon they will travel "Into the Mystic." This album is a must have for any true fan of music. Great songwriting, musicianship, and feeling make this album a forever classic. A+
Into The Mystic still brings me to tears everytime I hear it. I can't imagine a home without a copy of Moondance... how do people live like that?
i knew of van morrison but never knew what he could do to a person. I really got into his music about a year and a half ago and to best describe what it means to me i would need a few days. He brings joy, romance, sex, happiness, sadness, any emotion you want to bring out his music will help you. He is so underrated compared to the music of the dylans and neil youngs etc but his writing and voice create something you can't have with any other artist, I doubt it. This album is one of his best compared to other artists who would die to have a quarter of this album He is amazing and "brand new day" is maybe one of his best works. If anyone has never heard of him or not gotten his cd's just start with this one and keep going
This album is, quite simply, one of those albums that needs to be a part of any CD collection...small or large.
