: I saw this film six times in a row sitting in the Outer Circle Theatre in DC (back when you could do that sort of thing). There is a great scene in this film that explains the relationship between God and Man. God appears to Arthur and sends him on his quest. When Arthur tells God that God has had a good idea, God thunders. "Of Course It's a Good Idea." This line remains one of the funniest things I have ever heard.
I must say, I agree with Amazon's review of the film. I'd never even seen any of the sketches before I watched the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Thank the heavens that this is NOT a rare film! With such quotable quotes as "It's just a flesh wound" and the ever remembered "Ni!" and the catchy "Knights of the round table" it's not hard to see why this was re-released. Stuck-up ninnies like Leonard Maltin who will stick to their classic black-and-white Bogarts will say things such as "For fans". Leonard Maltin can go to Antarctica as a "Penguin on the telly" as far as I'm concerned. Don't listen to him. Listen to the EXPERTS at Amazon. Did they not put it under "Essential Videos"? Watch it! Buy it! Whatever! Just enjoy the thing! And if you could get me a shrubbery while you're at it, that would be nice.
This is an exceptionally great movie(the best movie of all time in my opinion). This movie was hilarious. The laughs were relentless, they never stopped. I am an enormous fan of the Pythons, but you don't need to have even heard of them to enjoy this movie(or any of thier other work for that matter). The bottom line is see this movie. Many, many, many times. The best movie from the best comedy troup in the world. And that leaves only one question: What is the air speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?
The words of a knight whose arms have been hacked off in combat never sounded funnier than it does in this film. Despite one or two slow periods in the film, this is definitely a comedy you need to have a pulse to get. The DVD specal edition has it's own little moments of humor as well. Not only do you have commentaries from the members of Monty Python (above ground, anyway), but even subtitles in Shakespearean form (for the more high-brow types). The second disc is where you'll find a shrubbery full of features, including sing-alongs and my prsonal favorite in this set, part of the film done with Legos (you know, the blocks you put together to make stuff that you may have played with during your kiddie years)! For Monty Python fans and fans of insane and confusing comedy, this one's definitely for you.
When I first saw this movie, I had no idea who or what Monty Python was. After I laughed myself silly{and I mean silly,} I wanted to know more about them. Now I'am one of their biggest fans. If you don't like comedy or laughter, see this movie anyway. I highly reccomend it. END
