Here are some customer reviews of Message to Love - The Isle of Wight Festival :

Dear friends, Amazing concert of our generation, I buy and watch this DVD , but when I want to learn more knowledge about ISLE OF WIGHT CONCERT, I Couldn't, Because ; THERES A NO BOOKLET IN THE DVD POCKET !. ýs it a Fault of Product-Company ? ( if it is; They must be send a BOOKLET of this DVD to my adress ).....

Ok- here is one of the greatest collection of rock artists-not only that-but a pivotal moment of when 60 greats blend into the up and coming 70s arrivals-and what does this film feel is the most important element? The huddled masses of course! If one is interested in what youth looked like in 1970 this may be your cup of tea- sort of lookng at your high school year book I guess.
I find myself clicking through this mess to find the music. A pity that there is so little of it-
But its worth geting to see a few songs of the Who, Hendrix, Doors and Joni Mitchell. Others just get one song! Miles Davis appears for approx. 30 seconds! There is however nice footage of Tull and Moody Blues- would like to see the entire performances of these guys.
Missing- but appearing at the festival included Tony Joe White, Chicago, Procol Harum, and Pentangle. Not on this film.
The Bob Dylan performance is just a song over the credits. The actual Dylan live performance was the previous year-1969. When is this going to be released?
Hoping that one day another volume of this appears from the vaults- with more performances! Please- no crowds! It's just not
interesting!

I saw this film at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, and not only does it have some of the most fabulous live performances of this era caught on film, but it also gives one an appreciation of the filmmakers job to create a story from nothing but raw footage. From the angry crowds of concertgoers to the greedy promoters to the musicians just trying to perform, you get a real idea of what went wrong with the whole idea of the 60's free love movement asd it moved into a pre-cursor for the Me generation of the 70's. A truly undersung peace of art that is the foil to what WOODSTOCK did for the flower power generation. The only other equivalent to this film fiction wise would be FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS.

This movie is THE chronicle of the end of the hippie era. It's a hilarious but sad, fly-on-the-wall experience of the Isle of Wight Festival.

Greedy promoters (and security guards dressed as facists ) stop the hippies from seeing the music. 100,000 camp on the hill inventing ways to get over the fence. 20,000 sit inside having paid the promoters their entrance fee. The promoters sit in a two man tent stuffing wads of money into bin bags.

"Whatever happened to love and peace" says one hippy, as the guards set their Alastians on him.

Don't buy it for the music, which is also amazing, but is not the main point of the documentary. Complete performances are not featured. Buy it because it shows exactly what happended to the "Woodstock generation". My favourite film ever!

I could almost feel the corporate swine looking at the crowd and saying "What revenue potential"!! Highlights include Kris Kristoferson spooked by the crowd,("I think the're gonna shoot us!)and incendiary Townshend during "Naked Eye".Watch this video..You will have NO doubt about why ticket prices are $75 per seat today!
