Here are some customer reviews of Magical Mystery Tour :

Sure it isn't Sgt. Pepper's or Abbey Road, but I can't understand why people so look down upon this album. I think it is very good, with the possible exception of "Baby You're a Rich Man." And one thing should be remembered, for any other band this would be by far their best album-it just isn't quite up to the masterpieces the band was putting out around this time.

I recommend it very highly.

Wow. It is very difficult to find strong songs on this album. Out of 12 tracks there are only four of note: Magical Mystery Tour, Hello Goodbye, Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. Songs like Your Mother Should Know and Flying are truly throwaways.

These strong tracks from MMT should have been put on the Sgt. Pepper album instead of junk like When I'm 64 and Within You Without You. That would have been a 5-star album.

George Harrison's venture into the weird with "Blue Jay Way" perfectly balances out the catchy Paul McCartney "Hello Goodbye". Along with John Lennon's piece of nonsense "I Am The Walrus" and yes, Even "Flying" makes this a rock n'roll masterpiece with added on goodies such as the mellow Strawberry Fields and the retrospective mockhappy Penny Lane. I even liked the movie.

The strongest songs, "Strawberry Fields" and "Penny Lane", were actually meant for "Sgt. Pepper". But there was so much material for that album, or so the legend goes, that they were convinced the two could be released as singles. They released them as double side-As. They were feeling confident! And then, horror of horrors, they were kept from reaching No. 1 in Britain by Englebert Humperdinck's "Please Release Me". "Penny Lane" did become No. 1 in the United States, but their streak, and probably their tower, in UK was broken. Then Eppy dies, they lose/miss his guidance and skills and they wind up with that horrible MMT movie. They still make great songs but the albums, until "Abbey Road" only get goofier. The band was on a tailspin.

How do I rate the album? I got it for the two "singles" and got "Walrus" as a bonus. Love that droning string sound as John talks about semolina pilchard. The rest is still strong. There are a couple No. 1s in this disc, including "Hello Goodbye" (those backing vocals, never mind Paul) and "All You Need Is Love". If you haven't got these singles in any format yet, buy this CD.

For one thing, two of the songs were released before Pepper. Flying is annoying. Your Mother is just this annoying jingle. Hello Goodbye is catchy and bad. Like commercial songs. The title track sounds like tripped-out military band music. The rest is fine.
