Lost in the Mirror, 2nd Edition: An Inside Look at Borderline Personality Disorder
: I am the webowner of "Borderline Personality Disorder Today." This excellent book is especially written for people with BPD. Gently and beautifully written to assist the borderline and their families to understand this painful illness and some etiology of this disorder. The book is written in such a way as if the author has his arms around you all through the book. There is no other book written about the borderline personality disorder like this as the author validates the borderlines experiences and comforts as well. He helps borderlines to understand themselves.
"Lost in the Mirror" is one of the books that I have read over and over. It describes Borderline and ways to help. Having BPD is difficult, and this book is comforting to me and has helped me A LOT! even "saved" me several times!!!! I highly reccomend this to BPD's their families, friends and therapists.
Readers who have BPD may love this book. Those of us who have (or had) MPD/DID will find the comparisons between BPD and MPD rather poorly defined and described. The essential feature of BPD is instability in interpersonal relationships. The essential feature of DID is the coexistence of two or more personalities. Drawing comparisons between these diagnoses is silly--more so than comparing the moon and the earth because both are round, have craters, and fly through space. I wouldn't recommend this book.
This is an absolutely excellent book. Although I don't have all the symptoms that would necessarily qualify me as having BPD, I have enough of them that I could relate to the content of this book. It made me feel as though I'm okay, even though I have certain problems. I think it would also be a great read for anyone living with someone who has BPD.
This is the third book on borderline personality disorder that I have read. It is the best, even better than the highly rated "Elcipses" in my opinion. Easy to read format, highly educational for those suffering from BPD, those who live with persons suffering from BPD, and mental healthcare workers working with BPD sufferers; and suffer they do! Please read this book!
