Here are some customer reviews of Lost Souls :

Enjoy your Brit-rock lush, layered, yet unpretentious? Then do yourself a solid and pick up this fine album. And if your time is as valuable as mine, the import is even better as there are no "bonus" tracks (which are really not great or even interesting oddities). Can't wait to see what they're like in concert.

This was an AMAZING album. Definitely one of the best Rock Albums of the last 5 years. It is experimental and the results are astonishing witness the genius of tracks 3,5, and 8 and how different they sound from each other it just shows the diversity in this album. Really one of the best albums I ever heard most definitely an instant classic.

What can be said about this little sparkler of an album? I often find myself looking for such choice words that I may bestow upon this, this 'album' if I can call it by such a phrase. A work of art, a gentle journey through the minds of a bunch of mellow Mancunians, the boys done good, they sure did. A belter of an LP, fresh, original and entirely welcome on our ears. Enjoy tender moments with Lost Souls by your side, it won't let you down.

Certain albums grab you immediately and never let you go. Lost Souls does just that, opening with a marvelous instrumental and ending with the same. Opening track "Firesuite" feels like that first ascent up a roller coaster, the music pulling your mind into the heavens. By the time you reach the closer "Zither" you're walking among the carnival debris, kicking the bright streamers before racing back to the roller coaster to do it all over again.

The amazingly moody "Sea Song" with its dangerous swelling musical loop is balanced by the giddy joy of "Catch the Sun." There's a few faltering points but the musical peaks are so amazing you forgive Doves for their minor stumbles.

A beautiful sensitive debut by an intelligent band who melds traditional instruments with an electronic saavy. Ignore the comparisons, these boys are mining their own gold.

More, please, more!

OK, I really mean to give this album 4.5 stars, but since I can't....This is an amazing debut from a trio from Manchester, UK the city that gave us great bands like Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, The Chameleons, Buzzcocks, Stone Roses, et al. All of the songs on here are great but four need mentioning. "Rise" which takes ethereal guitar pop to new levels. If there was a painting I could equate this song to it would be "The Dream" (?) by Rousseau. The soft background jungle noises might be why. You'll listen to this one again and again. "Catch The Sun" is reminiscent of vintage New Order with driving guitars and a great chorus. The opener "Firesuite" is a hypnotic instrumental and "Sea Song" gives me the feeling of being on a sunny beach on a frigid December morning, the water as clear, blue and cold as the sky. I love the piano on this one. The moods that these songs create seem alive. It won't be easy for Doves to top this album.
