Latenight Betty
: Latenight BettyBRAVO! Pepe and the Bottle Blondes! Your first CD is a masterpiece!. After a short introduction by a very well rehearsed young lady, it offers a tastefully balanced group of music tracks which include comedy (with sound effects), serious love songs, new Latin music and old standards, and Jazz. It combines Pepe Raphael's beautiful voice and singing technique with the sweet voices and wonderful harmonies of Ms. Stanton, Lausch and Hollyfield and with the competent renditions of the scores including those of American Jazz by the orchestra. The whole disc oozes of hard work and the strife for perfection a la Pepe. For me, the height of beautiful singing and music is in El Vals de Thomas and Lo Dudo. Thank you Pepe and the Bottle Blondes. What is next? A Video?- (after all, The Gipsy Kings have two or more videos)
Latenight Betty is awsome. Some of my old favorite songs with a new twist. This CD combines old latin rythems (Peres Prado etc.)with a modern "boza nova like" energy. Great tunes to lift your spirits and make you take a spin around the kitchen floor with your sweety on any given day. Quirky lirics are the best and multi-language combo in some of the songs make this CD interesting. The two instumentals at the end of the CD are classics that always please the ear.
Very unique blend of salsa, Ricky Ricardo, swing, and the occasional animal sounds make this one of my favorite CDs. Lots of catchy toons - watch out for a fun swing song that on closer inspection, turns out to be sung in Chinese! This CD makes a great gift.
Aight, if you are looking for interesting and fun music with a distictive Latin flair then this is the one to get. The music has the ability to make any room start jumping. If you love to dance to Latin music you are in heaven. But beyond that the song selection shows the diversity and breadth of the musicians. One of the most fun (there's that word again)songs is Number 4. It sounds like an old-style swing song, except for the fact that the lead vocalist is singing in Chinese...really really cool. There is also a really cool version of Sing Sing Sing. My personal favorite is Rumba de 5 Kilos. If you enjoyed the music of Pink Martini then this cd is a must buy, the same quality but much more danceable. And if you really like this cd then you should pick up Sympathique by Pink Martini (another group put together with Pepe Raphael).
I've seen these guys a number of times, and having listened to the CD - I know I am not alone when I say Bravo ! The recording quality is outstanding, and the performances are great. The CD is sprinkled with plenty of humorous bits - and this comes as no shock to those familiar with the group. There are some original tunes as well as some top notch arrangements of standards. Sing Sing Sing and Quizas are both outstanding. This band definately deserves a listen.
