Lady Sings the Blues (Ws Coll Spec Sen)
: The first time I saw this movie, I thought Diana was Lady Day! She was great in this movie, I must say, even though I am not a Diana Ross fan. She was the best heroin addict I ever saw. I used to joke that Diana had to go to detox after the movie, because there is just no other way for it to have been that real!
I saw the movie in the theaters twice. Once in Mexico City and another in San Francisco. The ending was different. Maybe because the foreing ending was too much for the people from the United States. I asked myself, the DVD is going to have the domestic or the foreing ending?
Diana Ross excels in her dramatic silver screen debut playing thelegendary jazz and blues singer Billie Holliday in a sometimes true, sometimes fictionalised adaptation of Billie holidays novel of the same name. The soundtrack is magic as Ross sings this admitedley in her own special style but does it so much justice you can't complain. Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor are also excellent as the supporting cast. The atmosphere is tense and gripping throughout and Ross plays the singers physical decline into heroin addiction with such realsim you can't help but question why she never received the oscar she was nominated for. On the whole thoroughly excellent and a classic well worth having whether being a Diana ross fan or not.
THIS MOVIE LEAVES ME SPEECHLESS. DIANA ROSS IS THE BEST ACTRESS EVER - SHE PLAYS BILLY HOLIDAY SO WELL. THIS MOVIE MAKES ME FEEL EACH SONG AND EACH EMOTION SHE WENT THROUGH. FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T SEEN IT THE MOVIE IS A BIOGRAPHY OF THE JAZZ SINGER BILLY HOLIDAY. VERY INTERESTING, AND I THINK ITS AN IMPORTANT MOVIE FOR BLACK HISTORY. GET THIS MOVIE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT
diana ross did this film much justice.and it has stayed solid all of these years later.billy and richard were both great as well.she should have won all of the major awards that year.this movie is a benchmark for bios period.
