: Had this CD been more than 30 minutes long, it might have been the best album AIC released, but it's still a classic. "Don't Follow" is an extremely sad but incredibly beautiful song, "No Excuses" and "I Stay Away" speak for themselves, and "Whale And Wasp" is a great instrumental. This is an essential album.
For only 7 songs, this has to be one of the greatest albums EVER recorded, and it was only done in 7 days. So what if it is not as well-known as Dirt or Facelift, it's their best e.p. (but yes, Sap was good too). 1.Rotten Apple-It's good, and very long, great way to start the album.
2.Nutshell-I place this among my favorite AiC songs, just listen, you'll understand.
3.I Stay Away-The single that should be played so very much.
4.No Excuses-Oh, so you say you don't like this song? You now no longer have any (good) taste in music.
5.Whale And Wasp-People hate this song. But it's only 2 minutes long, so it's tolerable.
6.Don't Follow-For some reason, I really like this song.
7.Swing On This-Different from all the other songs, and at the end you can hear the only dirty word on the album.
 Sorry, but Alice In Chains only need ONE acoustic album. Although they are often very well done, it doesnt quite satisfy an expecting AIC fan.
This is a great CD, only Aenima by tool is better. It is so creative. AIC reinvented themselves with this album, kind of the way Radiohead did with Kid A. They slowed down their songs and wore their hearts on their sleaves. Nutshell is the best song I have ever heard, it is one of my top 5 without a doubt. Anyone, whether or not you like AIC, go buy this album f you want to experience beautiful music.
By far the most versitile and original recording by the band, this '93 EP proved, as they hinted at on the 'Sap' EP, that they were more than just "grunge" rockers, and were able to craft absolutlely haunting melodies and textures (Rotten Apple, Whale & Wasp), and shimmering, flawless tunes such as I Stay Away, and No Excuses. By the time the heartbreaking 'Don't Follow' rolls around, you know you've experienced something, well, magical, that is absent in most of today's soulless mass product, and you push play again to experience it once more.
