Ixnay on the Hombre
: This Cd is not as good as Smash, but is an excellent Cd. It doesn't mtter whether it is the energetic punk in Cool To Hate, or Slower music in Gone Away, still to the highlights of ska in I choose, the Offspring have mastered punk and are the best band out there by far.
This CD is one of the Offspring's best along with Smash and Americana. I'll tell you about each of the songs. "Disclaimer" isn't really a song, it's similar to Smash's Time to Relax. The "Meaning of Life" has an excellent sound to it and tells about how others typically force their ideas on you and how you hate it. "Mota", which is about a friend with a drug addiction, is definately one of the underappreciated songs on the alblum. I like it a lot for it's sound, yet it also forces you to think about drugs and their consequences. "Me and My Old Lady" isn't the typical type of song you'd hear. It starts out with the repitition of the lyric line, "she ain't no ball and chain", over and over again until the REAL music starts. Otherwise, it's a great song with a different moral message. "Cool to Hate" is one of the few songs that sound like they belong in a different alblum (like Offspring, or Ignition). "Leave it Behind" is where the CD really starts to get great. I still love that song although it is only a minute and a half long or so. That song tells about how you need to leave your hate behind. "Gone Away" is the best song on the CD. About a love one dying, it shows a new side to the Offspring that isn't to visible in other alblums. There's also a video made to accompany "Gone Away", but you can only see it on MTV2 every once in a while, or on the CD extra for Americana. Next, "I Choose" is another great song telling of the worth of your own free agency. Dexter Holland says, "the world can be a nightmare, or a playground if we choose. And I CHOOSE." Thats a great philosophy to follow, trust me. "Intermission" is the next song and it really isn't a song, it's like elevator music. "All I Want" happens after "Intermission" and that's another great song about how all you want sometimes want to get away from it all. "Way Down the Line" is next and this song deals with teenage pregnancy and child abuse and how they're past down to generation to generation. "Don't Pick it Up" is the only song I don't enjoy. It's about how you have to watch what you "pick up". Trust me that is a stupid song. "Amazed", another great song, is about how hard it is to change sometimes and has the same mood as "Gone Away". The last song, "Change the World", is about how you want to change the world, but instead you should change yourself instead of being so selfish. That's the whole alblum according to me, and I love it. I gave it five stars for it's integrity, besides "Don't Pick it Up", and quality sound. If you buy it, hope you enjoy it!
THIS ALBUM IS GREAT. IT'S HARDCORE PUNK ROCK, BUT YOU CAN ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS. THIS ALBUM IS NOT AS GOOD AS SMASH, BUT IT'S STILL A GOT TO HAVE ALBUM IF YOUR AN OFFSPRING FAN. THE TOP FIVE SONGS IN MY OPINION ARE 1. ME AND MY OLD LADY 2. THE MEANING OF LIFE 3. COOL TO HATE 4. I CHOOSE 5. ALL I WANT
I don't think this album is as good as Smash, but it's still a damn good follow-up. My favorite song on the album is I Choose, but I like every song on the CD. If you liked Smash, get this.
The Offspring have done it again. This is a fabulous addition to the Punk genre. From the fast pace of All I Want to the slower Gone Away, every song is worthy of being a single. While every song is good, the real gems are: Mota, Me and My Old Lady and Leave It Behind.
