Dynasty
: Many fans donęt like this album, but a kiss is always good, it doesnęt matter how it is given. Although people say itęs too disco, I donęt think so, itęs different, but so good!
Ace's solos on "2000 Man" & "Hard Times" make this a must have for any Kiss fan. Yes the lead song "I Was Made For Lovin' You" has a disco beat, but it's a great song; and again, Ace lets it rip on a great solo. Peter Criss is pictured on the cover, but does not play on the album. Anton Fig (of David Letterman's band) handles the drum work. Because of Peter's absence, "technically" you can't consider this a "Kiss" record. But setting that point aside, "Dynasty" is the last great record Kiss ever made. It's the great song writing and Ace's signature guitar that defines Kiss for me; and this is the last Kiss album where Ace really shines.
they wrote the disco piffle that is "I Was Made For Lovin' You?" Talk about fickle, these guys would write ballet music if it was a money-grabber. The music on Dynasty is just faceless, powerless, and clueless. I did enjoy this album about 5 years ago when I bought it, but that was only because I was musically naive. Now older and wiser (hopefully), I realize the tomfoolery that is KISS. Sure, some of their music is worthy, but the overall impression of the first line-up's music is that it lacks in the quality department. Dynasty is the veritable straw that broke the camel's back- it is a culmination of musical failures, and no one band member is at fault. Internal strife within the ranks apparently lead to some sub-standard efforts. What really makes me angry is the fact that KISS supposedly go all out for their fans by remastering the catalog, but only a paucity of those darn discs have lyrics or other assorted goodies one would expect to find in a remaster. For a lesson in how to remaster a catalog properly, see ALL of The Who's output. Things do turn around musically (in my opinion) for the follow-up, Unmasked. -David Newman 1998
Though overall not quite in the league with their 4 and 5 star albums. Dynasty certainly has some fine Kiss moments. To kick things off, "I Was Made For Lovin' You", the band's biggest hit(yes it did better than "Beth" and 'Rock And Roll All Nite"-do the homework),and a fabulous rock/disco crossover tune from the same era of The Stones "Miss You", Blondie's "Heart Of Glass", and Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy." This was a great tune that fit "the times", something Kiss always strived for, to stay current while retaining their sound. Paul Stanley checks in with two more brilliant cuts, the near hit follow up "Sure Know Something", and the overlooked "Magic Touch".There are no less than three Ace Frehley cuts including The Stones cover "2000 Man",actually better than the original version, as well as his bratty "Hard Times" and the cool album closer "Save Your Love", one of those Kiss sleepers in the same league with Hotter Than Hell's "Strange Ways." Peter Criss' "Dirty Livin'" is a good dance floor thumper, and the only cut he played on in the studio(Anton Fig did the rest-Criss was in an accident and had difficulty drumming for some time). The only downers are two weak Simmons cuts, "Charisma" and "X-Ray Eyes" which sound like Love Gun leftovers, and typical of some of his "half interested" output of the 80's to come, where the band practically took a back seat (he admits) to his other activities.Maybe a 3 1/2 is more like it.
being a long time fan of kiss i have to say that they have to be the most original group of all
