Here are some customer reviews of Chicago : The movie musical has returned in all of its glory! This recording is every bit as exiting as the movie itself. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, John C. Reilly, Christine Baranski, and Taye Diggs are an ideal cast who can sing their hearts out. Forget the shock factor of "WOW, THEY CAN SING!" and just enjoy the tremendous talent that Rob Marshall assembled and the wonderful new orchestrations. From the overture until the conclusion of Kander and Ebb's incredibly melodic new song, "I Move On" (with the wonderful inclusion of the original score's "Class"), this is a disc that you cannot stop playing midway through. Savor the "Cell Block Tango," "We Both Reached for the Gun," "When You're Good to Mama," and the Finale. In fact, savor it all! The two tracks by Danny Elfman are subtely moody and jazzy enough to accent the Kander and Ebb score well (matching the music of them is a job well done). The "all-star" rendition of "Cell Block Tango" is amusing as is Anastacia's "Love is a Crime" (though to hear a rap after a Broadway score is a big gear shift)! This is a must buy for all who love musicals and want to see more well-done movie musicals. Broadway's BIG return to the screen is a genuine and glorified HIT! Can't wait for the DVD! Oh my God -- this movie and soundtrack thing has become an obsession for me. Went to see the movie for the first time a week ago today -- and I've now seen it three times (so far). I bought the soundtrack, and listened to it non-stop on a car trip from Massachusetts to Virginia (10 hours). What's wrong with me? This soundtrack is like musical heroin. I must say that I start all over again at the end of the actual movie soundtrack. I don't much care for the cheesy-pop-song version of any of my favorites. (Including that stuff is sacrilegious, IMHO...) Excuse me -- I have to go push "play" and start the CD again. (Is there a 12-step program for "Chicago" addicts?) -- Janis Jaquith, Public-Radio commentator and author of BIRDSEED COOKIES: A FRACTURED MEMOIR The first thing I said when this movie ended was that I had to go buy the soundtrack. Then I had to wait 4 whole days for the soundtrack to be released! I was not happy, but I am now! The movie was fabulous and the soundtrack recalls all the music that made it great. I am amazed at what great voices Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere have. Who knew any of them could sing this well??? Queen Latifah's "When You're Good To Mama" is a highlight of both the movie and the soundtrack. But it's difficult to single out just one or a few songs to listen to because they all deserve equal playing time. My advice? Run, don't walk to your nearest theatre to see this movie, then run, don't walk to your nearest music store and buy this CD! Trust me, you'll thank me later. I absolutely loved the movie, the music, and the dancing it was first rate! The day after I saw the movie I went online and wanted to buy the soundtrack! But, I , like everyones else who has written a review, was highly disappointed when I heard a 'new' rendition of Cell Block Tango/He had it Coming!! This was the reason I didn't buy this soundtrack but bought the original Broadway cast version and it is AMAZING!!! I am still blown away by the singing talents of Ms. Zeta-Jones, Ms Zellweger, and Mr. Gere, but I think the original is better! Definitely does justice to this sensational movie! Not since "Moulin Rouge" has a movie left me seeing out of the theaters and dying to buy the soundtrack!
