Here are some customer reviews of
Batman
: The standout tracks are "The Future," "Electric Chair," "Scandalous," and "Batdance." It's hard to believe he put this together in less than 3 weeks. It would take 3 years for many artists to drop something as good.
Prince is viewed by people who r now n their teens but little kids n the 1980'z as some kind of 1-hit 1der with a high-pitched voice. Eye've heard some really negative things about him from clueless, tone-deaf kids. These critics, along with those who think Prince is strictly a soul singer or JUST a singer/songwriter can listen 2 the Batman soundtrack 2 get n touch with reality. Some people didn't even know Prince was a musician - a multi-instrumentalist, until eye told them. If u were 2 listen 2 the opening song or the 2nd or 3rd song from the Batman soundtrack & hear a vocal contrast 2 Prince's trademark falsetto on songs such as Scandalouz, u would not only b surprised at his range, u would gain an appreciation 4 his songwriting. The Future & Electric Chair r sophistic8ed lyrically. If u were unfamiliar with Prince's work & heard Batdance u would c his vivid imagination & brilliant story telling. A few of the songs sound old-fashioned now, but considering they r from 1989, they r timeless n their own way. It'z a 1der that Prince didn't have a hand n the writing of the screenplay of the motion picture Batman. U can't tell from listening 2 the soundtrack album which 1 came 1st. Of course the movie project was the reason 4 the album, but u could take several of the 9 songs making up the album, maybe 8 of them, excluding Batdance, & put them on other Prince albums & they aren't out of place, which means thoughtful songwriting, not xpecting the movie 2 carry the album. 2 some degree, the soundtrack carries the movie. Rather than go in-depth with each song in review, a pleasant surprise awaits u...
I really liked this CD. It fit the movie, but it sounds great on it's own, too. What more could anyone ask?
I love this soundtrack. It's very hard to find in the stores though. It's been underrated since it's release in '89. "Batdance" is my favorite song off of this album. Unfortunately, none of these songs are on "The Hits" or "The Very Best of"...What happened? But anyway, I think songs like "The Future" and "Scandalous" are Prince classics. This is a short album in the tradition of "Around The World In A Day" or "Parade". Prince gets right down to business. This soundtrack works better than most because there's a common theme. So while this album has been all but forgotten, it's still worth the money. A Prince essential.
The Batman soundtrack was recorded by Prince. Maybe that is why it is so awesome. The first track entitled "The Future" is a bleak look at crime in the future. A good song for this movie."Electric Chair" will send shivers of electricity through your body as every hair stands on end. "Partyman" a classic. "Trust" another classic with a message."Batdance" an almost industrial definately funky song. I highly recommend this album
